This course is for those wanting to work in the uniformed and public services such as the police service, the fire service,
the prison service, the armed forces and the adventurous activities industry.
It provides an excellent insight to the way Great Britain maintains law
and order, health, safety and defence.
LEVEL OF COURSE: 2 EXAMINATION BODY: Edexcel
WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I GET?
Level 2 Certificate in Public Services, equivalent to GCSEs at A* to C.
WHY STUDY PUBLIC SERVICES?
To learn about the work of a range of public services in our country, whilst improving your teamwork and communication skills throughout the course.
Public Services will allow you to study the health and safety issues, in addition to the equal opportunities that exist in the public sector.
The course aims to develop a range of ICT skills, provide ‘hands-on’ experiences of public sector work that provides an excellent platform for applications for work within this sector.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
During this academic year pupils will gain a knowledge and understanding of the main roles and responsibilities of public sector workers, their employment opportunities and the conditions of service.
This is followed with a career planning and skill module that provides a complete picture of the processes involved in all roles within the sector.
For the final year of study pupils will study the importance of health and fitness for entry to the public services, make field visits to relevant sectors and complete all necessary coursework assignments for the course.
HOW WILL THE COURSE BE TAUGHT?
The delivery of the course includes an element of teacher-led input, independent research and portfolio-building and a range of visits and hands-on experiences.
ASSESSMENT: COURSEWORK 100%
Throughout the course, tasks will be marked and moderated that will contribute to your final mark. Exercises will include a range of written, ICT and practical tasks.
