Dyfed-Powys Police Careers Familiarisation Programme
Dyfed-Powys Police are offering an exciting opportunity for students to attend a ‘Career Familiarisation Programme’.
Dyfed-Powys Police are one of only a very few forces across the country offering such an opportunity. Similar to work experience the Career Familiarisation Programme will offer students the unique opportunity to see what goes on behind the scenes of a modern-day Police Service. Dyfed-Powys Police is one of the largest forces geographically in England and Wales and encompasses a huge range of careers that many will be unaware of.
There are a whole range of departments within the Dyfed-Powys Police organisation which deal with everything from computer crime to forensic examinations. Hopefully, this programme will open the eyes of the students to the possibilities within the organisation and identify that there is much more to the Police service than a response Police Officer, as many of these roles are held by non-warranted Police Staff. The programme will also give pupils an excellent experience to evidence on any university /college applications.
The programme will be aimed at Year 10–Year 12 students initially who are obviously at an important stage in their education where they need to decide what career path to take. The prospective students will engage in 2–3 day programme with Dyfed Powys Police in June/July (dates will be confirmed). During this time, they will visit and experience a number of different departments and gain a first-hand experience of what each department does, and how they contribute to the organisation. The programme will be office based (students will not be allowed out on response/patrol) and will take place from 9am to 3pm on weekdays. It will be the responsibility of the individual/student to arrange transport to and from either:
- Police Headquarters, Llangunnor, Carmarthen
- Newtown Police Station
- Brecon Police Station
- Aberystwyth Police Station
Depending on where the student lives and where they would like to attend the event, is where they will spend each day. The schedule will be organised in such a way that should the student need to move from department to department, this will take place within the same station and as such, transport will not be required during the day.
Any interested student will be asked to complete a short application form. Once the applications have been completed, please can you ensure they are returned by Thursday 8th June 2023.
