Good luck Charlie
Good luck to Charlie Hall, Year 9 who flies off to Phoenix Arizona on Saturday 7th May (where it is currently 36 degrees celsius) to represent Great Britain at the Broadcom Masters International STEM convention. Charlie won this amazing prize after winning the Broadcom Masters at the Big Bang Event at the NEC in March. Charlie will spend the week taking part in a variety of exciting STEM workshops and visits with 24 other Broadcom award winners from around the world. He will meet fellow Science Technology, Engineering and Maths enthusiasts from countries as wide ranging as the USA and Canada, to Vietnam, Japan and India. This will be a life changing experience for him and we wish him well.
Simon Biggs from Renishaw made a 4 hour round trip to deliver 24 unique Titanium 3D printer dragons for Charlie to take to Phoenix to give to the other 24 Broadcom international students from around the world. We want to thank Simon and Renishaw for this very generous gesture; the engineering company based in Miskin Bridgend is extremely busy at the moment, but they managed to find the time to produce these amazing "tectie" souvenirs of engineering excellence in Wales for Charlie to take with him. It was only when Simon delivered the dragons on Friday, having had to drive up to the finishing factory in Gloucester to collect them that we found out that each one is valued around £60, so Charlie went off to Phoenix with £1500 of Titanium in his case!
Renshaws have invited Charlie down to the company on his return from Phoenix so he can get an insight as to how the dragons were made as well as see the biomedical engineering facilities at the factory; as this is the career path Charlie is hoping to follow.
Later this month a group of year 8 girls will also be visiting the Renishaw company to take part in a Girls into STEM workshop.
