Maths Aspire Day

On Wednesday, 23rd March 38 students from Years 10 and 11 Set 1 attended our very first 'Maths Aspire Day' held at the Graig Campus of Coleg Sir Gar. Aimed primarily at our more able mathematicians in both year groups, the day provided an excellent opportunity for our students to have an intensive revision day to focus their efforts as they aim to achieve the top A and A* grades in the forthcoming GCSE exams. It also gave them the chance to visit the Mathematics Department at Coleg Sir Gar and hopefully inspired many of them to continue their mathematical studies to A-Level.

The students experienced a carousel of revision sessions taken by experienced teachers, Mr Richard Allen, Mrs Kerry O'Brien and Miss Demelza Bonnell and also had a talk from the managing director of A19 who won Swansea young businessman of the year. He outlined the nature of his business, the journey he has taken and how maths and education has helped him achieve his goals.

The feedback from the students at the end of the day was overwhelmingly positive.

Rachel Lewis (10 Set 1) said "I really enjoyed the Maths Aspire Day at the college and I also found it a very useful way to revise past topics. The talk we had was very interesting and overall the day was well organised."

Abigail Cole (10 Set 1) said "I found the Maths Aspire Day a very useful way of exam revision. I also enjoyed the talk that was given and it was nice to be able to spend the day at the college."

Jordan Buzza and Tamzin James (10 set 1) said "We feel that the day was a useful and valuable experience as our GCSE exams are imminent. It was a fun way to revise too!"

Elliot Lewis (11 Set 1) said "I thought that it was a great way to revise for our exams whilst learning about what A-Level maths is all about and learning about how it can benefit me in the future."

Ryan Green (11 Set 1) said "I enjoyed...it was well organised and it has benefited me well. Also I enjoyed that I had a taster day at the college I will be attending."

Siona Nelson (11 Set 1 - Head Girl) said "I really enjoyed the day...it made me more confident for my maths exam!"
