Pupils attend Carmarthenshire Youth Council AGM
On Wednesday 29th April Jo Rogers, Youth Worker attended Carmarthenshire Youth Council AGM along with eight of our pupils - Jai Thomas, Melica James, Gwen Griffiths, Opel Tyler, Hannah Woods, Rebekah Phillips, Leah Thornton-Lane and Jessica Rees.
During the AGM they listened to the 2014 report in the County Hall Chamber and also listened to a speech by Council Leader Kevin Madge. After the interval they took part in a discussion which was led by new Head of Learner Programmes, Department for Children and Education Mr Aeron Rees.
The discussion was around the Welsh Assembly 'Dyfodol Llwyddiannus’ / ‘Successful Futures’ Document which looks at curriculum changes in Wales. And with the Assembly now holding 'Y sgwrs Fawr' / 'The Great Debate' Aeron Rees wanted the young people’s views to put into Carmarthenshire’s Councils report to the Welsh Assembly Government.
And he was very positive in his praise of the pupils of Glan-y-Mor and their ability to contribute with strong and valid points. Their behaviour was impeccable throughout the evening and this was commented on by many to myself, from discussions between them and Youth Council Members 4/5 have put themselves forward to be elected on. This will involve them being part of their next campaign which is to highlight homophobic bullying.
