Year 8 & 9 pupils enjoy Royal Opening of the Senedd

Year 8 and 9 pupils enjoyed being guests at the Royal Opening of the Senedd on Tuesday 7^th June.  We were pleased to be chosen to help represent schools and youth organisations throughout Wales.  After strict security screening in the Pierhead Building, we met Education Officers and Assembly members before taking up our positions alongside the red carpet.  The Royal Opening was carried out by the Queen, accompanied by Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.  It was an exciting and colourful event.  After the ceremony, the pupils had a buffet lunch in the Senedd building and a tour of the gallery above the Debating Chamber.  We really felt part of the occasion and it was exciting to hear we'd been spotted on the TV news that evening.
