Year 9 Visit to Stratford Upon Avon
On Friday 16th January a small group of pupils from Year 9 travelled to Stratford upon Avon for a backstage tour of the RSC theatre. They were able to tread the same boards where great actors like Judi Dench, Patrick Stewart and David Tennant have performed and see how quick costume changes take place in under twenty seconds. The pupils learnt about set changes and wig making before walking along the river to Holy Trinity Church where Shakespeare is buried.
Reading the inscription telling them that 'Curst be he that moves my bones' fascinated them and triggered their imaginations as they spent the walk back to the minibus thinking of all the terrible happenings that would befall anyone who opened the grave to search for undiscovered plays!
See below letter received from one of the theatre guides.
Dear Headteacher
Trip to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on Friday 16th January, 2015
I was one of the theatre guides who had the privilege of taking round a small group of students and teachers from your school last Friday. I am writing a very brief note in a purely personal capacity to say how much I enjoyed showing them round. The teachers were excellent and had clearly put in preparatory spadework; the students were a real pleasure to show round. I hope they felt that their trip, which must have been a fairly long and tiring one, was worthwhile and I wish them every success with their studies.
Yours faithfully,
John Bradfield
